I Urge You to Stand Against RFK Jr.’s Dangerous Autism Rhetoric

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Pres. Trump, Rep. Johnson

From: A constituent in Richardson, TX

April 17

I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent and public health advocate in response to the recent statements by Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. regarding autism spectrum disorder (ASD). His remarks at his first press conference were not only misleading—they were dangerous. Secretary Kennedy repeated long-debunked claims linking vaccines to autism and labeled ASD a “preventable disease” caused by environmental toxins. He dismissed decades of rigorous research and implied that older generations were free from autism—a narrative rooted in outdated diagnostic practices and harmful misconceptions. These statements are not grounded in science. In fact, the increase in autism diagnoses over the past few decades is due to expanded diagnostic criteria, greater awareness, and improved screening—not a public health catastrophe caused by vaccines or everyday environmental exposures. Studies involving millions of children across the globe have shown no causal link between vaccines and autism. Calling autism an “epidemic” or a “disease” to be “prevented” perpetuates stigma and misrepresents the experiences of autistic individuals. Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition with complex causes, the most significant of which are genetic. Our national focus should be on inclusion, evidence-based support, and dignity—not conspiracies. I urge you to speak out against RFK Jr.’s misinformation, reaffirm your commitment to science-driven policy, and advocate for families affected by autism with compassion and truth. Your leadership matters—especially now.
