Stop the Federal Campaign of Intimidation Against Transgender Americans

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Walberg

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

June 18

You need to speak out and act against the federal government's coordinated campaign to destroy transgender healthcare and erase transgender people from public life. This is not hyperbole — it is a systematic effort using subpoenas, lawsuits, and institutional threats to enforce compliance through fear, and it is happening right now. The FTC lawsuit against WPATH is a clear example. WPATH is a nonprofit that publishes clinical guidelines — it sells nothing. Yet the government filed suit anyway, after a D.C. judge found "extensive evidence of animus and wafer-thin justifications" behind the investigation and threw it out. They then shopped the case to a Texas district where Trump-appointed judges handle virtually all civil cases. A federal judge said from the bench: "it's pretty clear to me that this was shopped to Texas." Meanwhile, the DOJ is using Texas grand juries to subpoena hospitals in New York and Rhode Island. RAINN had LGBTQ+ survivor resources stripped. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was ordered to deadname transgender children in missing persons reports. Federal scientific data on transgender health has been scrubbed entirely. This is McCarthyism. The mechanism is identical — investigate, threaten, destroy — and history has already judged that chapter harshly. I need you to use every tool available to you: hold hearings, demand accountability, introduce legislation, and say publicly that this stops now.
