Don’t cut NIH funding

To: Sen. Britt, Sen. Tuberville, Rep. Palmer

From: A verified voter in Alabaster, AL

February 8, 2025

I am writing with concern about cuts to the NIH budget that helps fund groundbreaking medical and scientific research, making America the international leader in scientific innovation. UAB receives $41 million in NIH grants, UAH receives $417,000 in NIH grants, UA receives $711,000 in NIH grants, and University of South Alabama receives $192,000 in NIH grants. Matt Owens, president of the Council on Government Relations, an association of research universities and academic medical centers, says: “This is a surefire way to cripple lifesaving research and innovation” (NPR). Please use your platform at your voice as our elected officials to advocate for scientific and medical research in the state of Alabama.
