I urge the House to take swift action and pass the bipartisan bill recently approved by the Senate to criminalize the creation and distribution of deepfake pornography. This exploitative and non-consensual content causes severe emotional and reputational harm to victims, predominantly women. As this unethical practice proliferates with advancing AI capabilities, strong legislation is imperative to protect citizens' privacy and dignity. Deepfake porn represents a disturbing new frontier of sexual exploitation enabled by technology. Failing to establish legal deterrents now risks normalizing this abusive behavior and inflicting trauma on more innocents. I emphasize the urgent need to enact this law prohibiting deepfake pornography to safeguard civil liberties and human rights in our digital age.
