Demand due process for deported permanent resident Kilmar Abrego Garcia

To: Rep. Bergman, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Williamsburg, MI

April 16

The continued policy of deporting migrants, including U.S. permanent residents, without due process to privately-run prisons in El Salvador is a grave violation of civil liberties that undermines the rule of law. The deportation of individuals like Kilmar Abrego Garcia to facilities like the notorious Cecot mega-prison, known for inhumane conditions and lack of legal protections, must cease immediately. This practice deprives people of their fundamental constitutional rights based on unsubstantiated allegations, setting a dangerous precedent that erodes due process for all. Protecting civil liberties by preventing the outsourcing of immigration detention to unaccountable private prisons abroad is crucial for upholding American values of justice and equality under the law. Concrete action is urgently needed to stop these unconstitutional deprivations of due process.
