I am writing to express my outrage regarding the $166 billion in tariff refunds now flowing back to corporations.
Over the past year, American families have "felt the sting" of these tariffs through higher prices on essential goods. We paid the premium at the register, effectively subsidizing corporate interests under the guise of trade policy. Now that these tariffs have been deemed illegal, those billions are being returned to the very companies that passed their costs onto us.
Where is the relief for the consumers who actually bore the burden?
It appears that while families struggled to keep up with inflation, these corporations were merely waiting for a taxpayer-funded windfall. This arrangement looks less like economic strategy and more like a massive wealth transfer from struggling families to corporate shareholders and oligarchs.
Did the government ever intend for these costs to be recouped by the families who paid them, or was this always a scheme to pad corporate balance sheets at our expense? If these companies are keeping the entirety of these refunds, it is a slap in the face to every American household that sacrificed to cover those costs.
I am demanding transparency. Why are families being left out of this refund process, and what steps will you take to ensure that this wealth is not simply hoarded by the wealthy
