An Open Letter

To: Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand, Rep. Clarke

From: A verified voter in Brooklyn, NY

January 15, 2025

I am writing to urge you to vote no on the Laiken Riley Act and to take bold action to stop reinforcing the Republican framing on immigration. I would like to see the Democratic Party STOP moving right on this. We all know the immense benefit that migrants bring to our country, you know that they are not responsible for violent crimes. You know that the system could have been fixed 30 years ago. That Congress could have created a path to legal status that allows the country to know who is coming in. You know that US birth rates have been dropping for years and that allowing more migrants to work legally will fill critical gaps that will help the country stay an innovation leader in the world. Please vote No on the Laiken Riley Act and please find a leader who is not afraid to tell the truth about the benefit that migrants bring to our country. Cara Coless
