Investigate and speak out against the October 12 raid on Rep. Ilhan Omar's home, weeks before a midterm election. Homeland Security Investigations executed this search based on allegations tied to immigration paperwork her father filled out when she emigrated from Somalia as a child. This is not a serious criminal matter. It is a political operation.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin telegraphed this at a Republican convention in September, openly musing about deportation. The DOJ's own policy discourages investigative actions close to elections precisely to prevent this kind of interference. The administration's claim that the raid doesn't violate that policy because it "wasn't meant to be public" is not a defense. It is an admission.
Omar is a colleague, a duly elected member of Congress. If federal law enforcement can raid her home three weeks before Election Day over childhood immigration paperwork, no elected official is safe. Silence now is not neutrality. It is permission.
