As your constituent, I am writing this morning to urge you to reject the current attempts to use the Congressional Review Act to gut Endangered Species Act (ESA) rules. This includes, but is not limited to:
- S.J.Res.80/H.J.Res.159 — A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service relating to "Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Regulations Pertaining to Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants".
- S.J.Res.81/H.J.Res.155 — A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the National Marine Fisheries Service relating to "Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Regulations for Interagency Cooperation".
- S.J.Res.84/H.J.Res.158 — A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service relating to "Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Listing Endangered and Threatened Species and Designating Critical Habitat".
- S.J.Res.85/H.J.Res.157 — A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the National Marine Fisheries Service relating to "Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Listing Endangered and Threatened Species and Designating Critical Habitat".
The ESA is one of our nation’s bedrock environmental laws. It protects critical species that Americans value and protects habitats from unnecessary and harmful destruction by industrial development, including by the fossil fuel and logging industries.
Many endangered species are hitting their limits. Many critical habitats are under siege by fossil fuel companies looking to make billions as our wildlife and communities pay the price. This cannot continue.
Please do everything in your power to strengthen the ESA, not weaken it.
