It is deeply concerning that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has mistakenly marked millions of living Americans as deceased in the Social Security Administration's records. This error has caused immense hardship for individuals whose benefits, credit, and very identities have been compromised. Rectifying these mistakes is proving to be a lengthy and arduous process, impacting vulnerable populations like the elderly and disabled who rely on these benefits to survive. Congress must intervene and halt DOGE's reckless "cleanup" efforts immediately. Preserving the accuracy and integrity of government records is a core responsibility that should not be outsourced to unaccountable third parties. The potential for catastrophic consequences is far too high. Furthermore, DOGE's overreach in this matter raises broader questions about its lack of oversight and unbridled authority to enact sweeping changes across federal agencies. Unelected bureaucrats should not wield such unchecked power to upend long-standing systems and jeopardize the well-being of millions of Americans. It is imperative that Congress reassert its constitutional role as a co-equal branch of government. Reining in DOGE, thoroughly investigating this debacle, and ensuring the Social Security Administration resumes full control over its records and operations must be top priorities. The American people deserve competent stewardship of their government, not careless mayhem masquerading as "efficiency."
