Oppose FBI Counterterrorism Expansion Targeting Political Beliefs

April 20

Vote against the $166 million FBI counterterrorism funding increase in the fiscal year 2027 budget. This proposal doesn't target actual threats. It weaponizes federal law enforcement against Americans who hold different political views. The budget redefines domestic terrorism to include "gender extremism" and labels "anti-capitalism" and opposition to "traditional American views on family, religion and morality" as national security concerns. This isn't counterterrorism. It's using the FBI to investigate people for their beliefs about gender, religion, and economic policy. The proposed NSPM-7 Joint Mission Center would formalize this targeting of "leftist" ideology as a federal priority. We face real problems that need congressional attention: crumbling infrastructure, healthcare costs, climate disasters, and actual violent extremism. Instead, this budget wastes $166 million investigating people who disagree with the administration's cultural positions. The ACLU's National Security Project director called this "a deliberate attempt to sow fear and intimidate and silence opposition." That assessment is correct. Reject this funding increase. Protect Americans' First Amendment rights and focus federal resources on genuine security threats, not political dissent.
