The continuing resolution being pushed by House Republicans is unacceptable and must not be supported. It enables the current administration to spend taxpayer dollars without proper Congressional oversight, which is a blatant violation of the constitutional separation of powers. Numerous courts have already ruled that this administration has violated the Constitution by freezing funds and dismantling agencies against Congressional intent. Approving this resolution would be giving them a blank check to further undermine the authority of Congress and disregard the will of the American people. Furthermore, the resolution makes harmful cuts that will directly impact constituents across the nation. It withholds $22.8 billion for the Toxic Exposures Fund, denying care to veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. It cuts rent subsidies, putting 32,000 households at risk of eviction, including veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and seniors. It also cuts $1.4 billion from the Army Corps of Engineers' construction budget, compromising waterway safety, flood management, and ecosystem restoration efforts. This resolution prioritizes partisan politics over the well-being of communities and the principles of our democracy. It must not receive your support until the administration demonstrates a willingness to follow the law and respect the constitutional balance of power. We cannot allow an unchecked executive branch to undermine Congress's authority and dismantle programs that serve the most vulnerable among us. I urge you to reject this continuing resolution and uphold your oath to defend the Constitution.
