An Open Letter

To: Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin, Rep. Stevens

From: A constituent in Farmington, MI

February 19

By use of executive orders the president is usurping powers that rightfully belong to Congress. This is a cause of extreme concern. He fired Inspectors General without the 30 days written notice to Congress as required by law. He has frozen appropriations that have been approved by Congress. Again, attacking the power of Congress. He is now negotiating a ‘peace’ settlement for the Ukraine-Russia war putting the blame on Ukraine and not even including President Zelensky in the process. He has given unprecedented power to a person who has not been approved by Congress and has no security clearance. This person has sent people into government offices to access secure government documents again, no security clearance or oversight of these people. He has allowed the person to fire huge numbers of federal employees who are essential to the running of our government, leaving many departments understaffed and vulnerable. And now there is an executive order allowing the president to rewrite federal laws, undermining the Constitution separation of powers. Please join forces with all Congressional Democrats and speak out strongly and push back forcefully on this attack of our government and country.
