Demand Removal of Stephen Miller and Independent Investigation of ICE/CBP Shootings

To: Sen. Blackburn, Sen. Hagerty, Rep. Cohen

From: A verified voter in Memphis, TN

January 30

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to remove Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller from his position and demand a full independent investigation into the recent deadly shootings by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection officers across the country. The shooting death of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis exemplifies the deadly consequences of the rushed and reckless deportation policy that Miller architected and implemented. The $165 billion allocated through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act is funding a massive expansion of ICE and CBP while simultaneously reducing officer training to just 47 days. This abbreviated training is producing substandard officers who are being deployed into urban and suburban environments for which they are completely unprepared, with tragic and fatal results. Officers who lack adequate training are being sheltered from consequences and empowered to act with impunity. This is not a border security issue. This is about poorly trained federal agents operating recklessly in communities nationwide, and the administration's refusal to provide accountability or transparency only normalizes this violence. I support the accountability investigations being conducted by the House Committee on Homeland Security under ranking member Bennie Thompson and the House Committee on Judiciary under ranking member Jamie Raskin. These investigations must proceed immediately and form the basis for impeachment proceedings against DHS Secretary Noem and the removal of Stephen Miller. Congress has a Constitutional responsibility to check executive branch overreach and ensure community safety. I urge you to fulfill this duty by demanding Miller's immediate removal, supporting independent investigations into these shootings, and restraining DHS leadership from continuing this dangerous policy. Both Democrats and Republicans must act now to prevent further loss of life and restore accountability to our immigration enforcement agencies.
