Kill the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act
To: Rep. Bresnahan
From: A verified voter in Milford, PA
February 15
I am a concerned constituent writing to express my strong opposition to the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act).
The SAVE Act threatens to disenfranchise millions of eligible Americans by imposing extreme and unnecessary barriers to voter registration. Requiring every citizen to provide a passport or birth certificate in person to register or update their voter information would disproportionately impact working-class Americans, older voters, women who’ve changed their last name, and those who’ve lost essential documents due to natural disasters.
Less than half of Americans possess a passport, and many birth certificates do not reflect a person’s current legal name. These requirements would make voter registration inaccessible for countless eligible voters, undermining the principle of equal access to the ballot box that strengthens our democracy.
I urge Congress to reject the SAVE Act and instead prioritize measures that expand access to voting, protect election integrity, and ensure every voice is heard. Our democracy thrives when it includes all of us.
