Oppose DOJ's Antifa Conspiracy Charges — A Dangerous Precedent for Dissent

To: Rep. Casar, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Manor, TX

June 16

Oppose the DOJ's June 16 conspiracy charges against 15 Minneapolis residents. These prosecutions are built on a dangerously vague framework that uses the "Antifa" label — a designation with no clear legal definition — as a net to sweep up anyone who organized opposition to federal immigration operations. When the government can charge people under a terrorism-adjacent conspiracy theory tied to a loosely defined movement, the door is open to prosecuting any organized dissent. The DOJ's own record here should raise alarms. According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, roughly one-third of similar federal interference cases from the Minneapolis ICE surge have already been dismissed. U.S. Attorney Rosen's claim that no cases "failed in any way" strains credibility. These charges are being brought against people who may not even have legal representation yet, under a framework the administration can stretch to fit whoever it wants to silence next. This is not about protecting federal officers. It's about criminalizing resistance to a political agenda. I need you to publicly oppose these charges, call for oversight of the DOJ's use of conspiracy statutes in immigration enforcement contexts, and demand that all defendants have access to counsel before proceedings advance further.
