Indep. Investigations Now! Alex Pretti, Renee Good & ICE Accountability
To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Casar
From: A verified voter in Austin, TX
January 24
On January 24, 2026, federal agents shot and killed Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse and U.S. citizen, on a Minneapolis street. He had no criminal record. He was a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry. Video shows agents restraining him, striking him repeatedly, then shooting him while he was on the ground. This is the third shooting by federal agents in Minneapolis this month. Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three and also a U.S. citizen with no criminal record, was killed by ICE on January 7. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says it has been “blocked” from investigating. After Pretti’s death, a federal agent mocked grieving protesters with the words “Boo hoo.” My family and friends in Minneapolis describe their city as a war zone occupied by federal forces accountable to no one. Dr. King warned that “history will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.” I am asking you to break that silence. Demand the immediate withdrawal of federal agents from Minneapolis. Support legislation requiring local law enforcement oversight of all federal operations in American communities. Call for a full, independent investigation into each and every killing by ICE. The Constitution does not permit federal agents to kill American citizens, block state investigators, and laugh about it. Your silence is complicity.
