I am writing regarding SB 1847, which is slated for consideration on the Senate floor Tuesday, April 21.
I urge you, in the strongest terms, to vote N O on this legislation.
While I firmly support the right of individuals to protect themselves and their families, SB 1847 goes far beyond that principle ates a dangerous and unnecessary escalation. It risks turning situations that should be resolved without violence into potentially fatal encounters. . By expanding the justification for the use of deadly force to include property-related offenses such as trespassing, theft, or vandalism, this bill cre der these consequences carefully and to stand on the side of public safety, restraint, and common sense by voting NO on SB 1847.
Laws should protect life first and foremost. SB 1847, as written, risks doing the opposite by lowering the threshold for when lethal force can be used.
