I urge you to vote against confirming Casey Means as U.S. Surgeon General. This position requires a practicing physician with current clinical experience and a commitment to evidence-based medicine. Means does not meet these fundamental qualifications. Means is no longer a practicing doctor. Instead, she has built a career as a wellness influencer and entrepreneur, raising serious questions about potential conflicts of interest through her business ventures. The Surgeon General must serve the public interest without financial entanglements that could compromise medical guidance to millions of Americans. Her alignment with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Make America Healthy Again movement is deeply concerning. This movement has transformed dissatisfaction with mainstream medicine into a disruptive political force that undermines public health infrastructure. During her confirmation hearing before the Senate health committee on Wednesday, Means faced bipartisan scrutiny over Kennedy's changes to vaccine policy, her medical credentials, and her past use of psychedelic mushrooms. These are not trivial concerns for someone who would serve as America's top doctor. The Surgeon General must be a trusted voice during public health emergencies, someone who can bridge political divides with scientific expertise and clinical judgment. Means' positioning as a critic of mainstream medicine and her emphasis on "wholeness" over evidence-based practice suggests she would further erode public trust in our health institutions at a time when we desperately need to rebuild it. Our communities deserve a Surgeon General who is actively engaged in clinical practice, who understands the daily realities of patient care, and who will prioritize proven medical interventions over political movements. I ask you to oppose this nomination and insist on a qualified candidate who meets the professional standards this critical position demands.
