Please do not vote for/pass the SAVE Act. I am a married woman with a different name than that on my birth certificate because I took my husband’s name, and am writing as a concerned constituent to express my strong opposition to H.R.22 – the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. While I support efforts to ensure secure and fair elections, this bill introduces unnecessary barriers that could disenfranchise eligible voters.
Requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote places an undue burden on many Americans who may not have ready access to such documents, despite being fully eligible to vote. Our election systems already have safeguards in place, and studies show that voter fraud is exceedingly rare.
This legislation risks creating more problems than it solves by suppressing voter participation and undermining the democratic process. I urge you to oppose H.R.22 and instead support measures that protect the integrity of our elections without restricting access to the ballot box.
Thank you for your time and service.
