The Trump administration's attempts to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) pose a serious threat to crucial humanitarian aid programs and American leadership abroad. By unlawfully sidelining USAID officials, shutting down operations, and attempting to illegally absorb the agency into the State Department, lives are being put at risk and foreign policy objectives undermined. Elon Musk and his illegitimate "DOGE" team members must be investigated for their meddling in this department, which also upholds free and fair elections both here and abroad. Elon Musk is not an elected official and should be jailed or deported for his egregious interference in our nation's most confidential information systems that contain the social security numbers of millions of U.S. citizens. Trump should also be impeached and removed from office for allowing this billionaire buddy of his to essentially buy his way into our highest office. USAID was established by law and cannot be unilaterally abolished by the executive branch in this blatant overreach of power. Congress must intervene to protect USAID's vital work providing developmental assistance, combating disease, and promoting security in nations around the world. This small agency operating on just 0.5% of the federal budget has an outsized positive impact. Its dismantling would deal a devastating blow to American global leadership and human rights efforts. Immediate action is needed to fully restore USAID's authorities, restart programs forced to shut down, and prevent the President from further abusing executive power in this reckless manner that jeopardizes lives worldwide. The lawful path forward is to robustly fund USAID under its statutory mandate as an independent agency.
