I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent Justice Department disclosure regarding Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's role in defying a federal court order. This revelation demands immediate action to uphold the rule of law and the integrity of our democratic institutions.
On March 2023, Judge James Boasberg explicitly ordered the halt of deportations of alleged Venezuelan gang members to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act. Despite this clear directive, Secretary Noem made the unconscionable decision to proceed with the deportation of 261 individuals on three separate flights. This blatant disregard for a federal judge's order is not only a violation of the separation of powers but also a dangerous precedent that undermines the very foundations of our justice system.
The gravity of this situation cannot be overstated. It has been 255 days since these illegal deportations took place, and only now are we learning the full extent of the administration's defiance. The fact that Judge Boasberg is seeking to revive criminal contempt proceedings against officials involved speaks volumes about the seriousness of this breach.
I urge you to take immediate and decisive action. Secretary Noem must be held accountable for her actions. The appropriate response to such a flagrant violation of judicial authority is clear: impeachment, conviction, and removal from office. This is not a matter of political disagreement but a fundamental issue of respect for our constitutional system and the rule of law.
