I urge you not to raise the debt ceiling as part of a continuing resolution. The debt ceiling is an important fiscal constraint that should be addressed separately through substantive negotiations on reducing the national debt. Raising it without any accompanying measures to rein in spending would be irresponsible and could enable a continued rise in unsustainable debt levels that burden future generations. Fiscal discipline and living within our means as a nation should be the priority. I implore you to decouple the debt ceiling issue from stopgap funding bills and instead use it as leverage to pursue meaningful reforms to cut wasteful spending and get our fiscal house in order.
