I am writing to express my deep concern and outrage over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It must stop.
Since October 7, 2023, more than 48,500 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, including 158 journalists, 500 health workers, and 278 aid workers. The total death toll is likely around 194,000. Over 88,800 people have been injured. This must stop.
The destruction is extensive: 497 schools, 703 places of worship, and 155 hospitals and clinics have been damaged or destroyed. There are only 13 partially functioning hospitals left in Gaza. The situation for pregnant women and new mothers is dire, with many giving birth in traumatic conditions. This must stop.
UN experts have declared that famine has spread across Gaza due to targeted starvation campaigns. Additionally, reports indicate that medical staff in Israel’s military-run prison at Sde Teiman are participating in the torture of Palestinians. The ongoing siege prevents over 12,000 wounded people from accessing life-saving medical care. This must stop.
Despite this, the Biden administration has lifted its pause on a shipment of 1,700 500-pound bombs to Israel, further escalating the violence and suffering.
We are not merely complicit in this genocide; we are funding it. This is our genocide. How can anyone condone this? It’s horrific.
This situation is a disgrace and a stain on our history. I implore you to LISTEN to your constituents and take immediate action to:
1. Cease all military aid and arms sales to Israel until there is a verifiable and sustained commitment to ceasefire and adherence to international humanitarian laws.
2. Demand an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life and destruction.
3. Support international efforts for accountability and justice for the victims of these atrocities.
The United States must not continue to be complicit in these gross violations of human rights. It is our moral and ethical responsibility to stand up against such atrocities and work towards a just and lasting peace.
