An Open Letter

To: Sen. Peters, Rep. James, Sen. Slotkin

From: A constituent in Rochester Hills, MI

April 10

The SAVE Act threatens to disenfranchise millions of eligible American voters across the country. Its strict documentary proof of citizenship requirement would create unprecedented barriers, disproportionately impacting voters of color, married people who have changed their names, rural voters, and those with disabilities. Studies show over 20 million citizens lack ready access to citizenship documents. The bill also aims to restrict mail voting by prohibiting states from counting mail ballots received after Election Day, undermining a practice allowed in many states. This harmful legislation must be stopped to protect the fundamental right to vote and ensure our elections remain free, fair and accessible to all eligible citizens. I urge you to oppose the SAVE Act and any measures that would erect unjustified obstacles to the ballot box.
