Vote No on H.R. 22, the SAVE Act

To: Sen. Hagerty, Sen. Blackburn, Rep. Ogles

From: A constituent in Culleoka, TN

March 12

I need you to vote against H.R. 22, the SAVE Act, which passed the House on April 10. This bill creates unnecessary barriers that will prevent eligible American citizens from voting. The documentary proof requirements are extreme. Voters would need REAL ID-compliant identification, certified birth certificates, naturalization papers, or complex combinations of documents. Millions of Americans don't have easy access to these documents. Obtaining them costs money and time that many working families don't have. This isn't about election security. It's about making it harder for citizens to vote. The 24-hour response requirement for federal agencies and the mandate that states purge voter rolls based on database matches will lead to eligible voters being wrongly removed. Databases have errors. People will show up to vote and find themselves deleted from the rolls. We already have systems to verify citizenship. Non-citizen voting is extremely rare and prosecuted when it occurs. This bill solves a problem that doesn't exist while creating real harm for American citizens trying to exercise their constitutional rights. Vote no on H.R. 22.
