Publicly condemn JD Vance's investment in AcreTrader, a platform that profits by funneling investor capital into U.S. farmland and pricing out the farmers who actually work it. Vance invested up to $65,000 in AcreTrader through his venture capital firm Narya Capital, and there is no indication he has divested. A politician who profits when farmland consolidates in investor hands cannot be trusted to legislate in farmers' interests.
This isn't abstract. Between 2008 and 2023, investor purchases of farmland surged 231 percent. Farmers are being outbid in cash by people who will never set foot on the land, then forced into short-term leases that make long-term soil investment impossible. AcreTrader's model prioritizes high-value, water-intensive crops for quick returns, not the climate-resilient farming systems rural communities actually need. Vance built financial stakes in this system, then ran for office. That's a conflict of interest, and it deserves to be called out by name.
