No AI Governance: Keep Humans in Charge of Our Laws

To: Sen. Slotkin, Rep. Moolenaar, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Mesick, MI

November 7

To: My Elected Officials I am writing to demand ironclad legislation that strictly prohibits artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, automated systems, or any algorithmic technologies from replacing, automating, or holding sole governance over any function of human government. This prohibition must explicitly prevent the delegation of sovereign state powers—including lawmaking, judicial adjudication, law enforcement, executive actions, and the administration of public benefits—to computerized systems. Shifting terminology like "autonomous agents," "smart contracts," or "predictive administration" must not be used as loopholes to bypass constitutional accountability. The government belongs to the people, and its authority cannot be outsourced to code. No machine can possess moral conscience, empathy, or constitutional liability. Decisions that impact human rights, liberties, and citizenship must mandate meaningful human control, ensuring that public officials remain entirely visible, answerable, and legally accountable to the public. I urge you to codify into law that any attempt to replace human civic authority with automated decision-making is a violation of due process and an abdication of democratic governance.
