H.R. 9495 contains concerning provisions that undermine civil liberties and due process. Designating organizations as "terrorist supporting" based on opaque criteria and revoking their tax-exempt status is an overreach that could be abused to suppress legitimate dissent and activism. I urge you to vote against this bill. While assisting American hostages is a worthy goal, the measures proposed here go too far and set a dangerous precedent of government overreach against organizations it unilaterally deems problematic. There must be robust due process protections and clear, narrow definitions before stripping groups of fundamental rights. I respectfully request that you reject H.R. 9495 and instead work on legislation that protects both American citizens abroad and constitutional freedoms at home.
