I’m writing as your constituent to urge you to oppose the FY2027 National Defense Authorization Act as passed by the House on July 22, 2026 (216-212), and to strike or reject two provisions in particular. Section 219 — military integration with Israel. This provision would merge US and Israeli military technology and supply chains. Republican Representative Thomas Massie, who voted against the bill, called it a betrayal of our sovereignty and said he hoped the Senate version fails. I share that concern. Regardless of one’s position on the US-Israel relationship, permanently entangling American defense infrastructure with a foreign government’s military — especially one currently prosecuting a war that I believe constitutes genocide against Palestinians, a characterization that remains before the International Court of Justice and is contested by other governments and legal bodies — is a decision this scale of consequence should not be buried inside a defense authorization bill. I do not believe this rises to the legal definition of treason, but I do believe it represents a serious and under-debated surrender of independent military decision-making, and I want my vote of concern on record. The SAVE America Act, attached to this bill. This provision would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote and government-issued photo ID for all federal elections, including absentee ballots, and would mandate frequent voter roll purges. The Brennan Center estimates over 21 million Americans lack ready access to the documents this would require. Attaching this to a “must-pass” defense bill, rather than debating it on its own merits, is itself the problem: it is an attempt to force sweeping voting restrictions into law without a stand-alone vote, ahead of the fall midterms. That process is what I consider un-American — using national defense funding as leverage to reshape who gets to vote. I’m asking you to vote no on this NDAA in its current form, and to insist that Section 219 and the SAVE America Act be stripped out and considered separately, on their own merits, with full debate.
