I am writing as a constituent deeply concerned about the safety of Minnesota’s children. The gun‑violence epidemic has reached a point where ordinary school days now carry an undercurrent of fear. Families across our state are asking the same question: What is being done to keep our kids safe?
Minnesota has long prided itself on strong communities, shared responsibility, and the belief that every child deserves a fair chance to grow up. Yet the rising number of shootings—both in schools and in the surrounding community—shows that our current approach is not meeting the moment. Parents, teachers, and students are carrying a burden they should never have to bear.
I am asking for clarity and leadership.
What specific plans, proposals, or legislative actions are you pursuing to protect school children from gun violence in Minnesota?
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Measures to prevent firearms from reaching individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others
- Investments in school safety that do not criminalize students or turn schools into fortresses
- Support for mental‑health resources that address crises before they escalate
- Evidence‑based strategies proven to reduce gun deaths and injuries in other states
Minnesotans deserve to know how their elected officials intend to confront this crisis with seriousness and urgency. Our children deserve more than thoughts and condolences—they deserve action that reflects the value of their lives.
I look forward to your response and to understanding the concrete steps you plan to take to ensure that every child in our state can learn without fear.
