Reject PECO's Proposed Rate Increases

To: Gov. Shapiro, Sen. Kane, Rep. Williams

I'm asking you to reject PECO's proposed rate increases when they come before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. The company wants to raise electricity bills by 12.5% and gas bills by 11.4%, adding $34.50 to monthly bills starting in 2027. That's unacceptable when PECO can't even get basic service right. PECO claims these hikes will fund infrastructure improvements, but customers shouldn't pay more for service that's already failing. The company is requesting a 10.95% return on equity while suburban families struggle with inaccurate billing and poor reliability. Utilities shouldn't profit from investments that fix problems they created through years of deferred maintenance. The $429 million for electric upgrades and $81 million for gas projects sound like PECO finally doing the job it should have been doing all along. Customers already paid for reliable service through their current rates. Making us pay again through massive increases rewards the company for its own failures. The PUC review process needs to prioritize consumers over corporate profits and either deny this request or require a significantly lower return on equity.
