Prevent school shootings now

To: Sen. Hawley, Rep. Bush, Sen. Schmitt

From: A verified voter in Saint Louis, MO

December 17

How many tragic school shootings do we need to see in the news before we try something different? We had ONE terrorist plot, and none of us can take a water bottle to the airport. We have hundreds of shootings each year, and inaction from you, our representatives. Mental health is not a valid excuse - mentally ill people are more likely to harm themselves that hurt others. Please enact basic gun reforms supported by Everytown and the 97 percent - which have bipartisan support: 1. Require universal background checks for all gun sales. 2. Close gun sale loopholes and require background checks on all commercial gun sales. 3. Remove the prohibition on gun violence research by the CDC. 4. Pass an Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, a “red flag” bill, to allow relatives and law enforcement to temporarily remove firearms from an individual in crisis Children growing up today with regular active shooter drills will not continue to tolerate this status quo when they are of voting age. But how many needless deaths from our friends and family members will happen between now and then? This issue affects every single one of us and cannot wait.
