Protect Privacy: Stop Musk's DOGE Data Access Overreach

To: Sen. Blackburn, Rep. Rose, Sen. Hagerty

From: A constituent in Nashville, TN

February 7

Our personal and financial information is being put at risk by the Trump administration granting Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) access to sensitive Treasury Department data systems. This overreach represents a severe breach of privacy and security. The newly introduced Taxpayer Data Protection Act aims to safeguard Americans' confidential information by requiring proper security clearances, cybersecurity training, and mitigating conflicts of interest for anyone accessing these systems. Criminal penalties would also be imposed for unauthorized access. This legislative solution is necessary to uphold the constitutional separation of powers and prevent the exploitation of citizens' private data by unelected billionaires like Musk. Allowing DOGE unfettered access would undermine public trust in government institutions tasked with protecting personal and financial records. Although the Democratic minority lacks full congressional control, bipartisan support from principled Republicans is crucial to defend the American people's fundamental rights from this unconstitutional government overreach prioritizing private interests over democratic principles. Preserving robust data privacy laws is imperative for a free society.
