Vote No on Farm Bill With EATS Act or Save Our Bacon Provisions

To: Sen. Hirono, Sen. Schatz

From: A verified voter in Kula, HI

May 1

Vote no on any Farm Bill that includes the EATS Act or Save Our Bacon provisions. These measures would strip states of their authority to set animal welfare, food safety, and agricultural standards. I oppose federal overreach that prevents states from protecting their residents. States have the right to ban cruel confinement practices, require humane treatment of farm animals, and set higher safety standards for food sold within their borders. The EATS Act would nullify laws passed by voters in multiple states and block future reforms. This isn't just about animal welfare. State standards also cover pesticide use, environmental protections, and worker safety. Eliminating state authority creates a race to the bottom where the lowest common denominator becomes the national standard. That puts consumers at risk and undermines the democratic process. The Farm Bill is critical legislation, but not if it comes with provisions that gut state sovereignty. Stand with voters who passed these laws at the ballot box. Reject any version of the Farm Bill that includes the EATS Act or Save Our Bacon language.
