Stop elimination of subsided student loans & keep college available for all

To: Sen. Duckworth, Sen. Durbin, Rep. Budzinski

From: A constituent in Carlinville, IL

June 7

The GOP House Appropriations Committee just released the 2027 bill for the Labor/Health Human Services/Education subcommittee. One of the clauses eliminates subsidized student loans altogether. This must be stopped. This is a clear attempt to make college unattainable to anyone who can’t afford to pay 100% upfront. They are trying to frame this as making college more affordable, but it would actually have the opposite effect, which they know. It would create a segregated education system where only the wealthy could pursue college degrees. This clause must be eliminated, and you must do everything in your power to make sure that it doesn’t get passed.
