I am a constituent and I am writing you about the ongoing constitutional crisis unfolding in Washington DC. President Trump is openly violating our Constitution. He has usurped the power of the legislative branch by illegally impounding Congressionally-appropriated funding. He is attempting to illegally shut down Congressionally-established agencies. He has declared that all agencies may only promulgate regulations he has approved, making a joke of the idea of independent agencies or expertise. He has deliberately installed unqualified leaders or leaders who openly want to destroy the very agencies they were appointed to lead as another method to destroy how our government functions. He has fired inspectors general and the top lawyers in each military branch in order to make it easier for him and his cronies to violate statutes and the Constitution. He is stealing the power of the judiciary as well. He has ignored court orders. He has declared only the president and attorney general decide what the law is, in violation of the Constitutional role of our court system. As a veteran and former JAG officer, who like you swore an oath to the Constitution, I am appalled, frightened, and furious. I urge you to continue standing up, speaking out, and fighting for our system of government and our people. At the same time, I want you to use every procedural option to slow down Republicans. I want to see Democrats and independents make the Republican Party do the heavy lifting for their own evil agenda. Make them get every vote from their own party. Do not help them. Do not pass a funding bill unless you can get the illegality by Trump and Musk to stop. Stopping cuts to things like Medicaid is not enough, that is granting a concession to maintain what should already be there. A government shutdown is preferable to the ongoing technological bloodless coup. Please make Republicans see how they are appeasing Trump and Elon right up until they lose their own jobs. Also, please boycott the State of the Union. Things are not normal. Do not bring Robert’s Rules of Order to a knife fight. Decorum and norms don’t help us when the other side pretends they do not exist. Please work towards impeachment, and removal of Musk and his band of thugs. Thank you for your hard work and courage in standing up and fighting.
