2 Shootings In 2 Days: Congress Must Call Out Vance’s ICE Immunity Lie
To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Casar
From: A verified voter in Austin, TX
January 9
On January 8, 2026, Vice President Vance claimed ICE agents have "absolute immunity" while defending Agent Jonathan Ross, who shot Renee Nicole Good in the head in Minneapolis on January 7. Georgetown and Northern Kentucky constitutional law experts called this claim "absolutely ridiculous" and "wrong on its face." No such immunity exists for federal agents who break the law. Hours later, Border Patrol agents shot two people in Portland, with DHS claiming the driver "weaponized his vehicle." The FBI called it an "agent involved shooting," deleted that post, then reframed it as an "assault on federal officers." Same pattern both times: agents shoot civilians, claim the vehicle tried to run them over, authorities declare self-defense before any investigation, and the FBI blocks state access to evidence.
Trump called Good's death "self defense" on January 7, claiming the agent was run over. Secretary Noem called it "domestic terrorism" and said the agent "followed his training." Video analyzed by CNN, NPR, and NBC contradicts their claims. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called federal self-defense claims "bullshit." Congress must immediately investigate both shootings, block federal interference in state investigations, and hold hearings on the "absolute immunity" lie. ICE agents who kill Americans in our communities must be held accountable under the law.
