Protect Communities from AI Data Center Burden

To: Sen. Hagerty, Rep. Kustoff, Sen. Blackburn

From: A constituent in Memphis, TN

October 2

Take action now to protect our communities from the unchecked expansion of AI data centers. These facilities are being fast-tracked into residential and rural areas with little oversight, consuming enormous amounts of water and electricity while local residents bear the costs — higher utility bills, strained infrastructure, and degraded quality of life. I want you to support legislation that requires rigorous environmental review, community consent, and fair cost-sharing before any large-scale data center can be approved. The corporations building these facilities profit enormously while offloading the burden onto taxpayers and ratepayers. That's not a trade-off our community should be forced to accept. Push for strong siting standards, mandatory public hearings, and utility rate protections so that residents aren't subsidizing Big Tech's infrastructure buildout. This is about who has power in these decisions — and right now, it isn't us.
