Christians Say NO Cuts to Funding for Moms and Children!

As a Christian, I believe children are blessings, who model for us what it means to follow Jesus and help all of us see Christ’s love for the world. As Mother’s Day nears, we will always support the sanctity of the family and celebrate the blessed strength of moms across this nation. But the current proposals in the budget reconciliation bill will only reduce assistance that helps children in families with low incomes get enough to eat, see a doctor when they are sick, and meet their basic needs and thrive. I urge you to: 1. Oppose restricting federal funding for Medicaid and SNAP, putting at risk school-based health services and raising grocery costs. Requiring states to pay part of SNAP food benefit costs and reducing federal contributions to Medicaid, could lead states to cut benefits and eligibility because they can’t fully cover the new costs. 2. Oppose restricting the Community Eligibility Program, under which 24,000 schools in every state, serving more than 12 million children, would no longer be able to easily access free school meals. 3. Oppose new work requirements in the SNAP and Medicaid programs. Proposed work requirements would cause many parents to lose coverage and are proven to not increase work. Please vote against any bill that fails to prioritize the wellbeing of our moms and kids who need it most.
