The Senate must act swiftly to reject any of Trump's recess appointments that undermine democratic norms and processes. Recess appointments circumvent proper vetting and advice/consent responsibilities, allowing the installation of unqualified or extreme ideologues. This threatens the system of checks and balances. Unchecked recess appointments erode accountability and concentrate excessive power in the executive branch. The Senate has a duty to preserve its Constitutional "advice and consent" role by promptly holding hearings and votes on any such nominees after the next session begins. Upholding this process safeguards democratic institutions.
