Stop the Email-for-Exemptions Air Pollution Payoff
I am a voting constituent writing to demand an immediate end to the Trump administration’s illegal dismantling of the Clean Air Act. This administration has bypassed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) scientists to grant over 180 major industrial facilities—including coal plants and chemical manufacturers—sweeping two-year exemptions from air quality rules.
The process is a mockery of our legal system: polluters simply sent an email to a specialized inbox and received a "get out of jail free" card with zero scientific review. This easy pass allows the emission of deadly carcinogens like ethylene oxide and toxic metals like lead and arsenic into our communities.
The administration’s justifications of national security and unavailable technology are blatant falsehoods. Many of these companies already possess the necessary technology; they simply prefer the profit margins of pollution. By ignoring the checks and balances of the EPA, the White House is prioritizing corporate interests over the lives of millions.
I urge you to use every legislative and oversight tool available to halt these unilateral exemptions. Uphold the EPA’s mission to protect public health. The Clean Air Act remains a law, not a suggestion.
