The news reports that the federal agencies are refusing to cooperate with state and local authorities and even obstructing their attempts to investigate killings by federal agents in their jurisdictions is astonishing and terrifying. These actions reek of an effort at a coverup and they undermine our already diminished belief in the rule of law and trust in our officials respect for their duty to the Constitution. The killings by ICE must be investigated openly and by independent agencies without a connection to the killings. There should be broad bipartisan support for a transparent and credible investigation. The investigation must be conducted outside of the executive branch. Please either bring forward legislation to make this happen or add you name to efforts that are already underway. We need justice for the victims and we need to know that our Constitution still matters.
