Strengthen Penalties for Child Sexual Abuse
To: Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin
From: A constituent in Beulah, MI
February 24
I urge my representatives, Rep. Elissa Slotkin and Sen. Gary Peters, to support federal legislation strengthening penalties for aggravated sexual offenses against children.
Specifically, Congress should:
• Make the most severe child sexual abuse crimes eligible for the harshest penalties allowed under law, modeled on Alabama’s Child Predator Death Penalty Act;
• Provide federal funding for law enforcement units investigating child exploitation, including online predation;
• Support survivor counseling, victim compensation programs, and prevention initiatives;
• Encourage judicial review of prior Supreme Court rulings that limit maximum punishments for child sexual abuse so penalties reflect the severity of these crimes.
Protecting children from sexual abuse is a moral and legal priority. Please act.
