I am writing to urge you to support the complete abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE received a budget of $27.8 billion in 2025, yet this massive investment has only expanded a system that terrorizes communities through family separations, detentions, and documented brutality including neighbors being beaten and forced into unmarked vehicles by masked agents and children being kidnapped as they are released from school. The parallel to failed police reform is instructive. After the murders of Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, increased police funding and training did not reduce violence. Murders by police have increased year over year since 2013. More training and resources legitimize harmful systems rather than address their fundamental nature. A more trained mass deportation system is still a mass deportation system. A more trained agent of family separation is still an agent of family separation. Since the Department of Homeland Security was created in 2003, we have seen massive budget increases without accountability. People are dying in immigration detention centers. Community members are being shot at and killed at the hands of DHS. These are not failures of training but the inevitable result of an agency designed to enforce mass deportation. I urge you to pursue transformative solutions rather than reformist approaches. This means ending collaborations between local police and federal immigration agencies, ending 287(g) agreements, implementing and strengthening sanctuary laws, and defunding ICE entirely. Removing harm requires uprooting the source of the harm, not reforming it. Our communities need investment in social programs that address root causes, not expanded enforcement budgets. I ask that you publicly support abolishing ICE and redirect those billions of dollars toward community-centered programs that actually serve constituents rather than terrorize them.
