Urgent oversight and accountability after ICE killing of a U.S. citizen

To: Rep. Jayapal, Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell

From: A verified voter in Seattle, WA

January 16

I’m writing to express my deep alarm and grief over the killing of a U.S. citizen by ICE agents in Minneapolis—and my strong support for immediate, visible congressional action. Like many Americans, I have seen the video. The facts are not ambiguous, and the attempt to justify this killing through false narratives only deepens the harm. What troubles me most is not just this single incident, but what it represents: the normalization of militarized federal policing, the denial of medical aid, and the expectation that the public accept official statements over clear evidence. I know you understand the stakes. I am writing to urge you to continue pressing—publicly and forcefully—for robust oversight and accountability: emergency hearings, compulsory testimony, full transparency, and real consequences when federal agents violate constitutional rights. This is not routine enforcement. It is a constitutional crisis in miniature. Congress has both the authority and the obligation to act now, before more lives are lost. Thank you for your leadership and for standing firm on the rule of law.
