I expect you to take concrete action this session: strengthen anti-bullying legislation, increase funding for school counselors, and hold districts accountable for enforcing safe learning environment policies that explicitly protect trans youth. The research is clear: students who experience bullying suffer lasting harm to their mental health, academic performance, and long-term wellbeing. Trans students are already navigating enormous challenges, and a school system that fails to protect them makes everything worse. No family should have to fight a bureaucratic battle just to get their child safe at school.
