Protect Every Student From Bullying — Including Trans Kids

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Walberg

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

August 10

Every student deserves to walk into school without fear — and that includes trans students, who face bullying at disproportionately high rates. I expect you to take concrete action this session: strengthen anti-bullying legislation, increase funding for school counselors, and hold districts accountable for enforcing safe learning environment policies that explicitly protect trans youth. The research is clear: students who experience bullying suffer lasting harm to their mental health, academic performance, and long-term wellbeing. Trans students are already navigating enormous challenges, and a school system that fails to protect them makes everything worse. No family should have to fight a bureaucratic battle just to get their child safe at school. Tell me what specific steps you are taking right now to make sure every student in this district gets the bully-free education they deserve.
