Preserve congressional power over federal spending

To: Sen. Hagerty, Rep. Cohen, Sen. Blackburn

From: A constituent in Bartlett, TN

February 26

The separation of powers is a core principle of our constitutional system, with Congress holding the exclusive power to appropriate funds. Circumventing this process by allowing an unelected individual to unilaterally decide which programs receive funding undermines this critical check and balance. Any adjustments to appropriated funds should go through the proper legislative channels, not be made arbitrarily. Upholding these institutional safeguards is essential for maintaining accountability and preventing the accumulation of unchecked executive power. I urge you to take action to preserve Congress's constitutional prerogative over federal spending decisions.
