NSPM-7 concerns

To: Rep. Thanedar, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Lincoln Park, MI

October 5, 2025

I am writing to express my deep concern about National Security Presidential Memorandum 7 (NSPM-7), issued in September 2025. While I support efforts to counter political violence and domestic terrorism, I believe this directive poses a serious threat to civil liberties, free speech, and democratic advocacy. NSPM-7 authorizes sweeping federal powers to investigate and disrupt individuals and organizations based on vague and ideologically charged criteria including views that are anti-capitalist, anti-Christian, or critical of traditional American values. This language risks criminalizing dissent and targeting nonprofits, activists, and marginalized communities under the guise of national security. I urge you to: Demand transparency about how NSPM-7 is being implemented. Introduce legislation to protect constitutionally protected speech and association from overreach. Hold hearings to examine its impact on civil society and political expression. Our democracy depends on the ability of citizens to speak freely, organize peacefully, and challenge power without fear of surveillance or retaliation. NSPM-7 undermines these principles and sets a dangerous precedent. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response and leadership in defending our constitutional rights.
