The Governor signed HB1 and SB1 last Friday. If the lower court allows Alabama to switch back to the 2023 maps, those bills will force her to call do-over primaries in four U.S. House districts and two state Senate districts. The fiscal note is roughly $5 million on top of the May 19 primary Alabama taxpayers are already paying for. That is double-billing voters to overturn the election we are casting ballots in right now. The same maps were struck down twice as racially discriminatory. I'm asking Governor Ivey to publicly oppose calling any special primary, on cost grounds, and to support repealing or amending HB1 and SB1 to give her discretion. Stop the chaos. Stop the double-billing. Honor the May 19 results. Thank you.
